Vikings win during Jam Tourney finals


HOOVER 66, MOUNT SI 52  Tony Iero scored 17 points as the Vikings defeated Mount Si in the semifinals of the Cactus Jam Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., in high school boys basketball action Saturday.

Austin Blyer contributed 13 points and Nick Evans added a dozen for the Vikings.

Hoover will face the winner of the Newport (Wa.)-Metairie Country Day (Iowa) in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

High-powered attack keys Jackson’s victory

JACKSON 96, PICKERINGTON CENTRAL 80  All five starters for Jackson scored in double figures, as the Polar Bears came away with a win in the Play 4 Cancer Shootout at Jackson High School.

Evan Bailey scored 14 of his team-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, including a perfect 8-of-8 from the foul line. Bailey also had 10 rebounds.

Jackson (7-1) led by as many as 20 in the second half before Pickerington Central cut it 75-70 with 4:30 left in the game.

But then the Polar Bears went on a 14-0 run to put the game away.

Ohio State signee Jae’Sean Tate led the Tigers with 33 points, scoring 25 in the second half.

Mitch Pugh added 22 points for Jackson, while Kyle Mottice had 17.

Saints win defensive battle against Crusaders

TUSKY CENTRAL CATHOLIC 38, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 34  Michael Teater scored 11 points as Tuscarawas Central Catholic knocked off Canton Central Catholic 38-34 in final game of the Dover-Phila Credit Union Holiday Shootout at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High.

Mark Mokros and Jerry Leatherman led Central Catholic with eight points apiece.

Green stars fast, finishes off East

GREEN 57, AKRON EAST 44  Austin Marciniak led three Bulldogs in double figures with 14 points as Green earned a home victory.

Green got out to a fast start, outscoring East 14-4 in the first quarter.

Carson Corle scored 11 points for the Bulldogs, while Landon Holl added 10.

Moldovan’s 20 points sparks Hornets

EAST CANTON 65, MOGADORE 62  Bryce Molovan scored 20 points for East Canton as the Hornets captured a home victory.

Hayden Miller scored 17 points for East Canton, while Kody Kennedy added 12 points.

Peterson’s 17 points carries Tigers to win

LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 54, SOUTHEAST 48  Michael Peterson scored 17 points as Lake Center Christian won at home.

Tyler Wine added 10 points for the Tigers.

Free throws the difference for Mooney


CARDINAL MOONEY 69, CANTON SOUTH 61  Garrett Crum led Canton South with 16 points, but the Wildcats came up short against Mooney in a foul-plagued loss for the hosts.

Canton South committed 26 fouls, which led to Mooney going 25 of 39 from the free-throw line compared to 11 of 18 for South.

Malik Campbell added 13 points for the Wildcats.

Locke keys Lions’ triumph

MINERVA 52, BUCKEYE LOCAL 44  Jantsen Locke poured in 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to give host Minerva the victory over the Panthers.

The game was tied at 22 at halftime but Minerva outscored Buckeye Local 30-22 in the second half to get the win.

Nick Clapper added 12 points for the Lions.

Dukes’ Mason has double-double in win

MARLINGTON 49, SHEKINAH CHRISTIAN 38  Thomas Mason scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Marlington as the Dukes prevailed in the low-scoring nonleague contest.

Marlington outrebounded Shekinah Christian 37-23.

Leopards stop Ravens

LOUISVILLE 51, RAVENNA 33  Drew Noble poured in 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Louisville defeated the host Ravens.

The Leopards were tied with Ravenna 15-15 after the first quarter but Louisville outscored the Ravens 12-2 in the second quarter to take control of the game. Blake Hoover added 13 points for Louisville.

Copley outduels Northwest

COPLEY 77, NORTHWEST 58  The Indians had four players score in double figures, but came up short against an Indians team that scored 46 points in the first half. Chad Hill led Northwest with 15 points, Tristan Mullane had 14, Jackson Schultz finished with 11 and Ryan Colby added 10.

Pasiuk leads Warriors

CARROLLTON 61, INDIAN CREEK 33  Caleb Pasiuk poured six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points, as the Warriors won convincingly at home.

Hornets use balance vs. Heritage

MALVERN 76, HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 33  Four Malvern players scored in double figures as the host Hornets coasted past visiting Heritage

Christian. Mitch Loomis led Malvern with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Jaret Majestic, Trey Tucci and Mitch Haasz scored 13 apiece for the Hornets.

Woodrich keys win

KIDRON CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 50, SANDY VALLEY 46  Josh Woodrich scored six of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Comets to a win on the road.

Bryce Offenberger led the Cardinals with 13 points, while Nate Shepler added 10.

 

 

 

 

Indians can’t overcome poor 1st half

COPLEY 77, NORTHWEST 58  The Northwest Indians allowed 46 points in the first half en route to falling to Copley on Saturday.

The Indians put four players in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to make up for Copley’s big first half. Chad Hill’s 15 points led Northwest, while Tristan Mullane had 14, Jackson Schultz scored 11 and Ryan Colby finished with 10.

Bulldogs rebound against Trojans

DALTON 41, TUSKY VALLEY 38 (OT)  A day after suffering their first Wayne County Athletic League loss, the Dalton Bulldogs bounced back to pull out an overtime win against visiting Tusky Valley.

The Bulldogs, who fell to Norwayne on Friday night, outscored Tusky Valley 10-5 in the final quarter to force the extra period. Dalton then held the Trojans to just three points in overtime to move to 6-2 this season.

Cody Huth led Dalton with 14 points, while Adam Metzger added 10 points. Connor Clark had a team-high nine rebounds to go with six points.
