PLAIN TWP.  With no shortage of playmakers Saturday at Bob Commings Field, a record-setting night of offense delivered plenty of excitement for several thousand fans on hand for the Canton Repository-Malone University East-West All-Star Football Game.

PLAIN TWP.  John Cybak was just happy to do his part on a record-setting night.

The recent Tuslaw High School graduate kicked a 44-yard field goal with 1.1 seconds left to give the West a 35-33 win in Saturday's Canton Repository-Malone University East-West All-Star Football Game.

If there were any doubts former Lake star defensive back Zach Sturmi was going to participate in the 28th annual Canton Repository-Malone University East-West All-Star Football Game, they were quickly erased. A former teammate helped Sturmi decide quickly that he wanted to be part of the game, which is 7 p.m., Saturday, at GlenOak's Bob Commings Field.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors will hear a presentation next month to play all state playoff games for all seven divisions on Fridays for the first four rounds of the playoffs.

MASSILLON  It didn’t take long for the North-South Classic small-school all-stars to get a feel for what they were signing up for during Saturday’s opening act of a two-game doubleheader at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

MASSILLON  Five practices. That's all the teams in the Ohio North-South All-Star Football Classic essentially had to get themselves ready for Saturday's games.

MASSILLON  Steve Channell looked around Paul Brown Tiger Stadium Saturday evening as the stadium lights began to replace the daylight as the primary method of illumination and smiled.

MASSILLON  There was a roar around Paul Brown Tiger Stadium as noon arrived Saturday. It had nothing to do with the scheduled kickoff time for the Ohio North-South All-Star Football Classic's Division IV-VII game.

Instead, it was the sound of thunder as a storm struck Massillon.

MASSILLON  All-star football games are supposed to be all about throwing the ball all over the place and scoring bunches of points.

Half of that happened for the South team in the Ohio North-South All-Star Football Classic big-school game Saturday afternoon at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. It was able to score a lot of points in a 38-34 win over the North.
