CARROLLTON Phil Mauro, who coached football in both Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, is returning to the area and will ply his trade in Carroll County next season.

The former New Philadelphia and Jackson High School head coach was hired to be the new head football coach at Carrollton by the Carrollton Exempted Village School District Board of Education Thursday night.

Almost two decades after it was last played at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, the Ohio North-South Classic is returning to Massillon in April.

COLUMBUS  The Ohio High School Athletic Association football state championship games will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton in 2017 and 2018 following approval from the OHSAA Board of Directors at its January meeting Thursday.

Carrollton High School head football coach Eric McCort announced his resignation on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

A 1996 Carrollton graduate, McCort said he resigned to spent more time with his wife and four children.

A class heavy on stars from the early 2000s mixed with a two-way standout from the mid-1940s and state championship coach from ’80s form the Stark County High School Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017.
