Robinson commits to Michigan
CANTON TWP. One last look around Michigan Stadium was all Jerald Robinson needed to become a Wolverine.
The Canton South High School junior on Monday verbally committed to play football at the University of Michigan. A 6-foot-2, 185-pound two-way star for the Wildcats is expected to play wide receiver for Head Coach Rich Rodriguez.
“Being in the Big House, the academic program, the coaches. It’s all there,” said Robinson, who visited the Ann Arbor campus Monday, four days after receiving an offer from Rodriguez. “It’s crazy. It’s always been my dream to play for a big school like that. Now, I get to be a part of one of the biggest rivalries in college football.”
Robinson caught 34 passes for 756 yards last fall, an average of 22.2 yards per catch for the Wildcats (8-4) in earning All-Ohio honors. He scored seven touchdowns and also stood out at defensive back.
Robinson said he had been contacted by every Big Ten school but Michigan was the first to offer a scholarship. He plans to major in sports management and hopes to contribute to a Michigan turnaround right away. The Wolverines (3-9, 2-6) did not play in a bowl game for the first time in 33 years.
“Coach Rodriguez told me he’s going to give me a chance to play as a freshman,” Robinson said. “I’m going to have to work hard, but all I want is a chance.”

Watching my nephew grow into a well rounded respectable young man has been a joy. At a very young age he committed himself to preparing himself to become a competitive athlete on the court, field and in the classroom. Before making his committment to Michigan University I spoke to him and I told him that the first school to offer him a full scholarship and the ability to play the sports he loves is the school that is the most interested in him. It is the college that was predetermined to be a part of his educational venture before he was born. My advice to him now is to stay focused, be humble, and steadfast in his quest toward his career.
Congratulations Jerald
