Phila's Dummermuth to play in North-South Game
New Philadelphia High football standout Tyler Dummermuth will get a chance to show his talents on a statewide level when he takes part in the 64th North-South All-Star Classic at Ohio Stadium on June 20.
Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Dummermuth, a 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, is slated to be a defensive back for the South team.
“I’m really excited about it,” said Dummermuth. “I was an Ohio State fan growing up and to play at Ohio Stadium is going to be a thrill.”
He was a second team All-Ohio selection and first team Eastern District selection this past season as New Philadelphia went 8-2 in the regular season and fell to Dover in the Division III playoffs.
Dummermuth was also a force on the offensive side of the football for the Quakers as he caught 36 balls for 607 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed the ball 25 more times for 206 yards and five scores.
But Dummermuth is happy to be hitting instead of being hit.
“I really like playing defense,” said Dummermuth. “It’s a lot of fun.”
Dummermuth said its going to be interesting playing with a whole new cast of teammates.
“It’s going to be neat playing with a bunch of new people,” said Dummermuth. “We’ve got a meeting coming up and I’m looking forward to learning more about it.”
Dummermuth will be playing his college football at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, located in Western Pennsylvania.
The Crimson Hawks are coached by former Illinois boss Lou Tepper. Dummermuth will play middle linebacker there.
“The campus was really nice and I’m looking forward to going there,” said Dummermuth, who will be majoring in safety science.
Safety science prepares individuals for careers in occupational safety, occupational health, environmental safety, fire protection, ergonomics, systems safety, emergency planning and response and safety management.
