Norwayne's Sette wants an early birthday present

CRESTON  Vinnie Sette still wears scarlet and gray.

“But I’m a Norwayne Bobcat now,” said the former Northwest Indians two-sport star.

Sette will be calling plays on offense for Norwayne on Saturday when it takes on undefeated Kenton for Ohio’s Division IV football championship.

He knows about state championship games. Sette will tell his Bobcats about how he played in the 2004 Division II basketball championship at Value City Arena in Columbus.

Like Norwayne in football, it was Northwest’s first appearance in  a championship game. The Indians’ dream season ended in a 75-42 loss.

“I haven’t said anything to them yet,” Sette said. “But I will tell them. It’s something special. Now this is my second time at a state championship.

“I appreciate it so much more now.”

He wants to share that experience with his team. Then, he is going to ask them for something in return.

“I’m 25 now, and my birthday is coming up later this month,” Sette said. “I’m going to ask them for an early birthday present.”
