Lake High School senior Zach Sturmi, an All-Stark County defensive back last fall, signed with Walsh University to continue his football career.

A 5-foot-11, 165-pound safety, Sturmi earned all-district and All-Ohio honors as both a junior and senior, helping the Blue Streaks reach the state playoffs each season. Last fall, he was Lake's leading tackler and receiver and was voted the team MVP. He made 105 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two two interceptions, returning one 101 yards for a touchdown. He also caught 25 passes for 356 yards and two TDs.

“Zach has been a great leader for us both on and off the field,” Lake head coach Dan DeGeorge said in a statement. “He is a very talented football player who always puts the team first. Zach has the toughness, and work ethic to succeed at the next level, and he has been an integral part of the Blue Streak football family over the last three years.”

Sturmi currently has a 3.76 grade-point average at Lake, and plans to major in pre-med/biochemistry at Walsh.
