Eric McCort resigns as Carrollton football coach

Carrollton High School head football coach Eric McCort announced his resignation on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

A 1996 Carrollton graduate, McCort said he resigned to spent more time with his wife and four children.

McCort, who took over the Warriors program in 2012, guided his team to a 5-5 record this past season, capped by a 35-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference win over rival Minerva.

In five seasons, McCort went 26-24 highlighted by a 7-3 campaign in his rookie season.

Prior to taking over the head coaching postion, McCort was a Warriors assistant coach for 10 seasons.

McCort was a four-year starter at linebacker for West Liberty State College (W.Va.) and graduated from there in 2001.

He was a team captain at West Liberty his junior and senior seasons.
