ALLIANCE The Alliance City Schools Board of Education is expected to vote and hire Mike Schott as the high school’s next football coach today. The 1988 Alliance graduate replaces Ron Kuceyeski.

Schott, who is also the school’s head girls basketball coach, has 10 years of previous head coaching experience and has been an Aviator assistant the last five years. He was the offensive coordinator the last four seasons.

“It means a great deal for the simple fact that’s where I went to school,” Schott said. “I wanted to come back home and have the opportunity to give back to the program that gave so much to me at one time.”

Schott played one season at Mount Union College and then turned his attention toward coaching. He was a varsity assistant coach in 1990, two years removed from high school.

Schott was the head coach at Sebring McKinley for three seasons and spent seven years as the head coach at Tarboro High School in North Carolina. Schott had his best success as a head coach in North Carolina.

He said he was in the playoffs all seven years, won three conference titles and played for the 2-A state championship in 1998.

But Schott wanted to come home and raise his family in his hometown.

“I just wanted to be back around my family,” Schott said about leaving Tarboro. “I had other opportunities, but they were an hour and a half away from (Alliance). When the opportunity came to return to Alliance, I jumped at it.”

The Aviators were 6-4 last year, but lost their last four after starting with a six-game winning streak.

“We want to build off Coach Kuceyeski’s past success and we want to take it to a new level,” Schott said.
