Dispelling Erick Howard myths

There is little I dislike more than adults spreading rumors about high school kids.

As we have reported in The Repository on numerous occasions, Erick Howard lived with Hoover High School football coach Don Hertler Jr. during Howard's junior year when his mother was in Seattle because of a family emergency. Hoover worked with the OHSAA to make sure the situation complied with all the rules. It did.

Also, Erick Howard was 18 years old before Aug. 1, again making him eligible to compete.

Amazing the stories that are told

Joe, nice job clearing the air. It is amazing to me how mean spirited and malicious adults can be. Every year in every sport there are stories on different players and made up reasons as to why someone is cheating. While we know cheating does happen sometimes, to pass along rumors should be beneath us, yet it is not always the case. Kosta Koufos was a victim of that same jealousy when he played basketball at GlenOak. Neither deserved this.
