Explain To Me The Purpose Of These Games.

After watching some football over the first weekend, There are just a few things I don't quite understand.  It seems to me that blow outs are just too common in the first week.  Seems better scheduling would be nice.

Location of Championship Games in Future

I am not a reporter and have never claimed to be.  I am not tryiing to claim to know any inside information, but I have been told  that Stark County is not the favorite to keep the football championship games.  Columbus has made a strong push, and is considered the first choice by many.  There has even been some talk of splitting the games between Akron and Canton.  I

Final Thoughts on Championship Games

I, like you have had a chance to digest the championship games.  Just a few thoughts.

Beautiful day for football

It's 10 minutes before kickoff for the first of six OHSAA state championships. Mooney and DeSales begin at 11 a.m. at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
There's about 8,000 people in the stands and nearly that many in the press box.
Light overcast, lots of blue in the sky but cold enough to be football weather. Looks like a great day for some games.

A Push To Keep The Championships In Stark County

As you have all probably heard, there has been a push by several cities to have the football championshops moved from Stark County when the next contract is up.  Teams from Cincinnati have complained about the travel time.  Other cities have argued that a city like Columbus is more centrally located and better for travel from the corners of the state.  It is a fair argument that N.

Exciting Massillon / McKinley Game!

I thought last weekend's matchup was something else.  An announced crowd of over 13,000 amazed me.  I never expected that many fans.  I thought that when MCKINLEY got a late touchdown in the second quarter right before the half, that they were going to be able to use that momentum to carry them in the second half.  MASSILLON rebounded and the second half had no points but

Not Much To Say.

I went to the MCKINLEY / GLENOAK game last week.  Did not write about it earlier because there isn't really much to say.  People can point to the two key turnovers  by GlenOak as being a big deal, but they were not all that relevant.  GlenOak was outplayed in all facets of the game.  McKinley was better offensively, defensively, on special teams, and their game plan was qu

A banner season for ECOL, IVC

We're entering uncharted territory for football teams in the East Central Ohio League and Inter-Valley Conference in terms of playoff runs.

Each league has two teams in the regional finals this weekend, the first time that has happened since the playoffs were expanded to eight qualifiers per region back in 1999.

No Real Surprise

I like most of you enjoyed the last weekend's playoff games.    Just a few thoughts.  Tough game for LOUISVILLE to lose.  Seems like injury and fatigue caught up to them.    And a tough regular season schedule may wear you out as well.  My hat is off to the team and Coach Farrah and his staff.  For my money, the best staff and program in Stark

Dispelling Erick Howard myths

There is little I dislike more than adults spreading rumors about high school kids.
